As many of us step onto the graduating path (which is exciting, yet scary sometimes), the huge, heavy word called our "future" is dropped like an anvil on us. Ouch! You'll start to realize that now you have to start planning for your future and lay out your plans for the next big step in life—the "career"(gasp!). All of a sudden you start thinking about finding a job, thinking of your qualifications, housing, a family, the whole shebang. Where do you start?
It always helps to take things one baby step at a time. You figure this: You can't buy a house until you have a job, and you can't have a job until you find one, and you can't find one if you're not looking, or looking in the right direction. The best place to start is to evaluate your skills and preferences. What do you like to do, and what's your passion? What have you done so far to prepare for that and the ultimate ticket to employment—your résumé
? Think of it like the road map of where you've been and a snapshot of your life. It's super-duper important that it's done right!
Usually you can find pretty good résumé guidelines on the Web or from professors. Don't hesitate to ask or speak up—I talk and ask questions all the time (as many of you already know). Why not? Learn as much as you can from as many people as you can. What advice do you have for other fellow islanders?
THATS SO TRUE ALL THE THINGS YOU WROTE, UMM AN ADVICE THAT I CAN GIVE IS THAT ALWAYS PUSH YOURSELF EVERY SINGLE DAY AND ALWAYS SAY TO YOURSELF,"DO I WANT TO HAVE A GREAT LIFE, OR SOME LIFE WHERE I HAVE TO BUST MY BEHIND 24/7 JUST TO PAY RENT". AND THINK OF THE PEOPLE WHO BRAUGHT YOU TO THIS WORLD. DO THEM A BIG FAVOR AND SHOW THEM HOW GREAT AND SUCESSFUL YOU ARE OR ARE GOING TO BE. YOU OWE THEM BIGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG TIME.
who are you
WHO AM I, CANT U READ MY NAME....?
Being out of high school is such a relief, but it does suddenly hit you that there is a lot of stuff you now have to worry about. Some advice I'd like to give is don't take high school too seriously. Don't spend all your time trying to get ready for college, because before you know it, it's over. People say that it's the best time of your life, and I know that when I heard that I took it as a lot of b.s., but I realized that it doesn't fully hit you untill after it's over. You may not like being in class or the teachers, but you got to hang with your friends every day. Once it's over you realize that you have less time to just hang out sometimes, or at least a little less to talk about. The friends you make will come and go, but the one's you want to stay will shine bright during that last summer together. And sometimes, other things need to be put on hold. Sometimes you need to make room and let things pass by, but never miss a chance to make a great memory unless you absolutely have to. Take a chance every once and awhile. And above all else, don't do anything too stupid. Why waste your time doing something that will hurt yourself or someone else when you could be doing something great?
Ah! The true word of the wise MegSRP! I always just feel that time flies by so fast in everything that when you finally decide to settle down and enjoy the experience of school - it's already over in a blink of an eye.
That was my soap box moment of the day. =)
