Like Harriet Tubman, who led black slaves to freedom through the Underground Railroad and by following the Big Dipper. And Rosa Parks, who refused to give up her seat and sit in the back of the bus. By standing up for what she believed in, she helped launch the Civil Rights Movement and changed history.
Booker T. Washington and Frederick Douglass were both born slaves, but they became prominent figures in Black history. Mr. Washington founded Tuskegee University, and was an important spokesperson for African Americans. Mr. Douglass was an author, American statesman and reformer – his work for the equality of all people led him to be one of the greatest abolitionists of his time!
Those are just a *few* of the many great Black Americans who have given so much to our country. They fought for freedom and equality — not just for African Americans, but for us all. Let's take some time to remember all that they've done!

Name: RandyLH Home: Mushroom Rail Station (154S 98W) About me: I have been a member of Stagecoach Island for sometime now, over 2 years and met a lot of very fun and exciting people. They're all the best and I want to thank everyone that was brave enough to vote for me : ) Best Island Memory: I think the most exciting thing about the island was in the early dayz when a group of us islanders went on a exploring quest. We had just a great time...very cool.
