Have you gotten a flu shot
yet? My kids and I have. I got the flu — and I mean the real-deal, down-and-out-for-a-week flu — nine years ago over Christmas, and I will never forget it. Any illness that sticks in your mind for almost a decade is something you don't want to get
again!
I recently heard a story
on NPR about how getting the flu can be costly for college students. The gist of it is, if you get sick and are out of classes for a week or more, it can possibly shipwreck your entire semester.
Certainly flu shots are not without controversy — just check out the comments connected with the story link above.
So, what do you think? Will you be getting a flu shot this year?

I did not get a flu shot this year... Last year was the ONLY year I got a flu shot and the only time I remember getting a really bad FLU. This past February I had over a 103 fever and truly felt like I was dying. It is the worst I have ever felt in my 27 years of life. The day my symptoms and 103 fever hit my mgr made me come into work since we were short handed. I couldn't even keep my head up I had chills, it was awful. I will never forget that.
Julie- If I had a manager who made me work with the flu, you can bet I would not work for him/her for long! That is absolutely ridiculous and counterproductive for a work environment. HELLO do you want to give everyone else the flu???
I am conflicted about the flu shot myself. I have gotten the flu after getting the shot and not gotten the flu after not getting it, so I'm not 100% sold on the true correlation. But I'll tell ya after getting the flu once or twice you want to do anything you can to avoid it, because it is brutal. I got the flu in February and was knocked off my feet for a week. Yuck!
Just a thought for those of you who say you got the flu after getting the shot. It's important to distinguish between a nasty cold and the actual influenza virus.
The former is something we all probably find ourselves getting at one point or other during the winter. The latter, however, is a dangerous, potentially-lethal virus that killed as many as one hundred million people in 1918-1919. Don't take chances with this disease; getting a shot, especially if you can get one free, is the better bet for almost everyone.
