Faced with a parking space shortage and limited public transit options, the Wells Fargo Green Team based in Frederick, Md., decided to create a unique carpool campaign: The team worked with a local transit agency to promote car/van pooling options for team members.
Titled "More Parks, Less Parking," the program showcases the message that fewer parking spaces can increase green space and beautify the workplace. To put this idea in action, the Green Team turned a parking space into a park for the day, complete with fresh grass, benches, games and snacks. They then worked with local transportation providers to host a fair, attended by more than 200 team members who learned more about local transit options, including vanpools and bus service to their work location, and Wells Fargo commuter benefit programs like WageWorks®
.
To ensure that carpool participants could be easily found, the Green Team created a carpool listing page using an internal collaborated site built on Microsoft SharePoint
software. The site debuted at the fair and was responsible for creating five carpool matches within days of its release.
The team also issued a survey to better understand commute patterns to the office. More than 20% of survey respondents indicated that they opt to travel to and from work by biking, walking, public transit, or a van/carpool—which, according to calculations by Commuter Connections
, will help save an estimated 518,400 vehicle miles and 26,181 gallons of gasoline each year!
In recognition of their incredible work to build a commute program, the team received a DC Metro Area Commuter Connections award for program on June 26th at the National Press Club
in Washington D.C. Take a look (fast forward to 2:11) and please join us in congratulating the Frederick, Maryland Green Team!

great work, another example of lack of consideration for the drones, but gee you got kudos from transit!
