Rock 'N' Roll Pool Party

Send a comment to Cassie

Yes, I decided to call this post "rock" 'n' roll because I feel like we spent most of our time chatting on a rock and talking about what kind of pets we have. I bet you didn’t know that lots of islanders have kittens, rabbits, and doggies. I’m a dog owner too...what about you?

So another interesting topic came up I wanted to ask you all about because I just think it's hilarious: have any of you guys eaten snow before? Jesusfreak012 brought the topic up and asked, "Wow, what does snow taste like?" The only time I remember eating snow was when I went snowboarding for the first time and skidded off the mountain, taking in a gigantic mouthful during the dive (that's the "roll" in rock 'n' roll, by the way). Yeah, falling was no fun - that's why I'd rather hit the slopes of Snowboard Mountain (40s 2E).

Other than that, we had fun in the water - even without awesome waves and surfboards – and played some Marco Polo Click here to learn about third-party website links. Afterwards we all teleported to a house Matt designed for Rosabelle. It’s by far one of the most elaborate houses out there, with stairs on the side of the roof leading to a gorgeous pool. You’ve got to go check it out. Maybe Rosabelle will throw the island a pool party for her housewarming. That would be loads of fun!

Thanks to all of you that came out! For those of you who missed our Beach Bash, Rylienikole is hosting a back to school celebration this Saturday. Come on by!

Have a fabulous 3-day weekend everyone!

Polar Bears On Ice

Spotting some polar bears Click here to learn about third-party website links on the island? Yeah, me too. Here on the island they may be small, furry, and friendly, but in the real world ... polar bears are the largest of carnivores with some weighing between about 770 and 1,430 pounds Click here to learn about third-party website links. That's pretty darn heavy if you ask me. Not your typical kind of fuzzy-wuzzy bear paws at all. As for the fuzzy part, their waterproof fur is about 1.2 inches thick, and they shed and replace it every year around May or June.

At 8 to 10 feet long (they can practically qualify to play for the NBA Click here to learn about third-party website links), these Coca-Cola® commercial Click here to learn about third-party website links stars don't really live on a nice, warm, tropical island like we do—in fact, they live on big chunks of ice along the chilly Arctic. Their typical dinner? A nice chubby seal. Oh well, that's just the way the food chain Click here to learn about third-party website links goes. Countries signed agreements back in 1973 to protect these polar bears, and as of today, there are about 20,000 to 25,000 Click here to learn about third-party website links polar bears grazing the Arctic. Woot!

I know it's not like we can just jet over to the Arctic to see them in action, so why not check them out on the island? Tell the community where you've spotted one.

S.I. Event: 8/30/07, 4-6 p.m. PT – Beach Bash!

Get ready for some fun in the sun and prepare to catch some rays with fellow islanders at the Auld Lang Syne Pool on Thursday, August 30, at 4 p.m. PT. Put on some sun block, grab a beach towel, and let’s hit the sand together for a summer celebration bash. See you there!

An Oasis In Desert Hollow

Have you ever seen a house made completely of water? I did for the first time when I went to Sephra g.k's new and cool (literally) pad in Desert Hollow. The desert may sound like an arid, hot place, but this particular house makes you feel cool and breezy all over. It's like a tiny oasis just sitting there, kind of melting in the heat like a big scoop of ice cream!

According to Cbow, Sephra g.k's home has received the "water treatment." It's like the house that survived all of the island's floods—no joke. It reminds me of a big and stylish igloo with lots of tents made of ice. On the ground floor there's a huge water hole filled with waves, dolphins, sharks and other fun stuff. I spotted polar bears—what can you find?

Kiteboarding The Islands

Tired of playing with your HydroBlitz Super Soaker 2007 Click here to learn about third-party website links? Since we're surrounded by a massive tub of water, let's talk kiteboarding Click here to learn about third-party website links. Hmm ... sounds a bit weird, doesn't it? Well, I've never tried it, but it sounds like one of the most fun water sports out there. How? Let me tell you.

Have you ever seen the beach on a windy day (in person or on TV) and noticed out in the distance these raft-like things with sheets tied to them just gliding about? That, my friend, is kiteboarding. It's the newest craze or hip thing to do in extreme sports. The kite—the piece of fabric that's attached to the board—increases the speed for the surfer. This whole sport isn't new though—it started way back in the 13th century with the Chinese Click here to learn about third-party website links using it as an easy, breezy (no pun intended) way of traveling. It sure made rowing the canoes a heck of a lot faster.

So let's get back into our SI learning bus and head on back to the 1800s, where a spiffy man by the name of George Pocock Click here to learn about third-party website links decided to just make regular kites bigger. These kites were engineered with four special lines and enabled "flying in the wind." You have to get off ground and water first to fly, so don't expect to strap a kite to your back and get in the air. But hey, we fly already as islanders, so it's all good and gravy. We don't even need kites—for us, it's as simple as the + and - key that makes us flutter and fly. Aren't we the lucky bunch?

Water Sports – Why They Rock

Considering the fact that SI is surrounded by a gargantuan Click here to learn about third-party website links (my big word of the day) mass of water, I feel like we don't splish splash as much as we should. ("Splish splash Click here to learn about third-party website links, I was taking a bath, long about a Saturday night ...")

So while that song is still stuck in my head, I want to know where your favorite water spots are to hang out and take a break from the world. You'll always catch me swishing around our Auld Lang Syne Pool and catching some sun rays in the sand.

Anyone remember the Auld Lang Syne Pool party? (click for larger image in a new window) The Auld Lang Syne Pool (click for larger image in a new window)

So I posted earlier last week asking if anyone wanted to do underwater aerobics, and since the response was, well, not as American Idol® Click here to learn about third-party website links as I had hoped, I'm thinking of throwing a water bash get-together instead. Simple, easy, fun and hassle-free. I'm setting it for next Thursday, August 30, at 4 p.m. PT at the famous Auld Lang Syne Pool—be there or be square!

Exploding Cupcakes!

Yeah, you read me right, exploding cupcakes Click here to learn about third-party website links. When you find them at the coordinates 79S 53E, turn on your sound and you can hear the "ka-blows" in the background. So don't be deceived by its sweet and chocolaty outside—its interior may not be as fudgy Click here to learn about third-party website links as you think. Now those are definitely cupcakes I do NOT want to be shoving in my face, hungry or not. Though Rosabelle and I can always think otherwise—we almost always let our stomachs rule our heads!

Now that you know where the goods are, swim by and listen to them. They're just scattered across the water like a plantation of cupcakes ripe for the picking! Yummy and dangerous!

Scholarships, Come Get ‘Em

I know the idea of free money seems far-fetched, but when it comes to maxing out your brain power, scholarships are basically a great source of free money for college. For those who have applied, received, or are just preparing for scholarships—get your 411 at the source.

There's lots of mucky prep work that goes into applying for one. You have to collect recommendation letters Click here to learn about third-party website links, test scores and, usually, a well-thought essay Click here to learn about third-party website links basically telling the college why you rock and just how awesome you really are. There are always hundreds of contestants piling in, so it's always a good idea to really put down on paper what makes you shine with that fuzzy halo glow.

I'm so excited to see our community evolve. New and old islanders have been busy creating gizmos and gadgets of their own.

Stagecoach Island now has their first clock tower, thanks to lostpoet. It ticks and tocks to real time and is pretty enormous. I feel like dinky James from "James and the Giant Peach" (the clock's like the big fuzzy peach, of course). Go check it out!

Here are some recent happenings and shots of all the awesome things that are happening right before our eyes. Tell the community what other cool things you have spotted, and be the first to share with everyone!

Back To School?

Get in line and start buying your supplies! Doesn't matter if you're in college, working, in high school, or all of the above—the back-to-school sales are still some of the best ones of the year.

Everywhere you go the big blaring signs all say "back to school" just to remind you that your summer vacation is—sorry to say—almost over. Ouch. The good side? Well, you get to shop for fun notebooks, stylish writing pads, and über-colorful pens to write with! Have you started? If you haven't, you better hop on it before all the items you want are completely sold out. And let me tell you, the worst is when you stare at a blank shelf knowing that had you gotten there 15 minutes earlier, you wouldn't have missed out on YOUR one and only copy of a "High School Musical" Click here to learn about third-party website links collector's folder set.

I remember a time when I REALLY wanted this notebook/planner for class and it was double the price of this brown mucky-looking notepad. Yes, I ended buying the mucky one. Why? Because I wanted to make sure I didn't go over budget just on supplies. I was saving up for the really cool things like an MP3 player or an even more high-tech cell phone, or that super-powerful calculator that can practically do your laundry if you programmed it (I wish). Like I always say, money doesn't grow on trees, but hey—it never hurts to save a little.

About me:

On quiet afternoons on the island, I find new islanders and show them around. Almost every Friday night some friends that I've had for years meet up with me, and we can chat for hours without getting bored. I enjoy "Simming" homes, so drop me a gram if you'd like any help on a build!

Best Island Memory:

I can remember my first journey around the island like it was yesterday. It was on June 21, 2007, I met so many friendly islanders that day who showed me all of the important locations. Very few of them still come online, but I've also made many new friends through the years of being a Stagecoach citizen.
