I'd like to introduce you to my friend Michelle Scales. Michelle is our Director of Diverse Segments. She's been part of Wells Fargo since 2000 and a 20 year veteran of the financial services industry. Michelle Scales, Director of Diverse Segments, Wells FargoToday's popular culture loves things that are the biggest, best and loudest. If that's the case, I think we're in for quite a week!

This is by no means a political post, but more of a reflection on how I, as an immigrant to this country, and Wells Fargo value the power of diversity. I see it everyday in our customer mix and employee base, as well as our commitment — in financial and human resources — to serving all populations across the country.

Tomorrow, our nation (and much of the world) will witness the marvel of a truly historical event: our country's first African-American president is going to be sworn into officeClick here to learn about third-party website links This event will stand out as one of the biggest moments not only for African Americans, but for people of all backgrounds who want to see the promise of this country come to life. It's an opportunity to take a serious look at what it means to be "American," as well as a statement that anything is achievable in this country.

If you look at Wells Fargo's Vision and Values statement, there is a section on diversity. This is not just a "nice to have" corporate program — no, it's a reflection of how we work. We have open channels for our diverse customers to tell us how we can better meet their needs. And it's not just a business imperative to drive revenue, but a real belief that all people — no matter their race, color, religion, creed, sexual orientation, national origin, citizenship, gender, gender identity, age, disability, marital status, veteran status, or any other legally protected status — can have access to the resources they need to fulfill their financial goals.

That is what we are all about.

As we combine with Wachovia, a company that also has diversity woven into its DNA, we truly are excited to serve even more communities and populations, each with their unique needs and interests.

can we pay wachovia mortgage payments now at wellsfargo

I noticed that you are blogging on this site on a holdiay dedicated to diversity; Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Does this mean that Wells Fargo does not recognize this day as a holiday?

I'm in Florida and I can use Wachovia ATMs but NOT to make deposits. Can can I make Wells deposits from FL without mailing them in? Thanks, Jan

@Janet - You can't make your Wachovia mortgage payment at Wells Fargo just yet. We are still working through the conversion timeline and will communicate to you as soon as that is an option.

How important is diversity to Wells Fargo? Also, I would be interested to find out how much of Wells Fargo upper management is non-white, male? I think that would be very telling of just how "Diverse" the company is.

To the "Wachovia customer": Have you looked at the Wells Fargo Board of Directors on the Wells Fargo website under Corporate Governance? That's one place to start looking.

I worked for Wachovia for quite sometime. I was actively involved in promoting their diversity initiatives. I was wondering when Wellsfargo began its initial implementation of promoting diversity. I understand Wachovia began its first executive meeting on diversity in 1994. Could you tell me when Wellsfargo began to actively promote diversity within the organization?
