Our New Commercial

Today I'm proud to announce Wells Fargo and Wachovia have launched a new advertising campaign! It's really one of the best ways we can reach out to you — our customers, communities, community leaders and employees — to let you know how excited we are to join together.

In print, on radio and on TV, you'll find simple messages (developed jointly by both Wells Fargo and Wachovia), which explain some of the advantages of our new combined company. One team, twice as strong is a message that will be heard consistently throughout the campaign.

We thought it'd be nice to share the new TV spot (called "Shadows") with you here on the blog. If you're an "American Idol" Click here to learn about third-party website links fan like me, you'll see it air during the January 13 premiere. If you're a "Lost" Click here to learn about third-party website links fan (there are a lot of you out there), check out the spot on January 21. Or, watch it right here!

Below is a list of other shows and channels that will be running the spot as well – tune in, keep your eyes peeled, and enjoy!

  • Grey's Anatomy (ABC)
  • House (Fox)
  • Extreme Home Makeover (ABC)
  • Today Show (NBC)
  • Good Morning America (ABC)
  • El Fuego en la Sangre (Univision)
  • Sábado Gigante (Univision)
  • National Geographic (cable)
  • USA Network (cable)
  • Discovery Channel (cable)

I like it. It's positive and forward-looking.

Will the commercials be concentrated in the Wachovia market? Or spread evenly on two coasts? Maybe heavier in the two HQ cities?

Suggestion: I'd swap the phrase "more capabilities, more resources and more solutions" for something more concrete, like "more branches, more ATMs" -- something the everyday consumer can relate to, some benefit to them.

Also, it's interesting (not wrong, just interesting) that there was no "strong and stable" message included in the spot -- something about WF's strength and history of experience, and what it means for the combined bank and its customers.

I'm not being critical -- just reflecting.

Interesting. Would have been better if Wells had teamed with Mullen and used the woman's voice of Wachovia. The male voice here is too blah...like the Wells Fargo Home Mortgage commercials. It doesn't inspire the consumer at all.

I use on-line banking, how will it be effected by the merger?

Why isn't bill pay at Wells Fargo free?

absolutely thrilling!!! way to go!!!!

So far so good! Will there be more TV ads coming in the future?

I like it. Simple and Subtle.

With all due respect, and making all attempts not to be negative, I am concerned that all of the publicity and integration is really designed to erase Wachovia.

Yes, I realize that basically Wachovia failed. However, Wells Fargo is doubling its size because of this very low price merger and basically giving no credit or recognition yet to one half of the merged companies. It's just something that I keep noticing with everything that comes out. I realize that Wells Fargo will remain in complete control of this new company, but I would feel much better about staying with the company if I saw some reference or acknowledgement given to Wachovia in the commercials, and especially in the logo for the combined company.

Great commercial! I would echo Jeffry's comment above and stress the combined organization's branch and ATM network. The new Wells Fargo will now operate more branches in more states than any other banking franchise in the US (#2 in ATMs I believe). I would also emphasize new Wells Fargo's strength and long, storied history.

Exactly, completely uninspiring. Like morbid life insurance commercials!

when can we start using wells fargo branchs?

I agree with the other guys,I know that Wachovia and Wells Fargo merged because I bank there, but if I didn't and saw that commercial, in fact I probably wouldn't watch the commercial because it doesn't get my attention. Just giving my opinion sometimes it helps

I agree with Tom. Wachovia should be acknowledged more and not forgotten. Wells Fargo should update their "dated" logo and include something from the Wachovia logo. Maybe the "waves." A new logo would also show Wells Fargo is fully embracing ALL of Wachovia. Thanks for the opportunity to blog.

As a team member, it was a wonderful surprise to see the new commercial tonight during American Idol. We are all very excited about the merger and getting to know our new team members and customers!

hi. Learning that wachovia has merged with wells fargo has indeed grabbed my attention, and I would be glad to close my account with bofa.. However, even though you advertise with my local radio station in Providence RI, your closest branches are in the hartford CT area.. Does Wachovia have plans to expand a little more?
Thank you, Brian

It looks just like that great Marine Corps commercial. I like the Marine Corps spot better.

I hear the Marines are about to shoot a new commercial. Maybe the Marines' ad agency can send your agency the storyboards now, so you can get a head start on copying their new commercial.

My comment has nothing to do with the business aspects of the commercial - it's just to say how surprised and thrilled I was to see your last shot - the Coast Guard Station at Popham Beach Maine - the greatest place on earth!

Its not a merger. Its a purchase, above the $1 fire sale price and without Govt pocketbook. Wells Fargo is AAA rated. Wachovia failed. It will be great to have WF in the Southeast finally.

why did y'all photoshop the Hatteras lighthouse? It's not sittin' on the beach anymore...it's a half mile back...been that way for 10 year.

One thing I forgot to ask, is there a link to the Spanish version of the ad? I really don't like either of the two shows listed (from Univision).

As a Team Member, nicely done and a good public introduction to the combined bank. The shadows projected on places like Central Park, The Golden Gate Bridge, etc. symbolize the new National reach. Maybe another spot can feature our Hot Air Balloons flying over similar places....

We get a San Francisco image, but no Charlotte--interesting.

And as someone else pointed out, Wells should really use this as an opportunity to update its image. The stagecoach and red block are a bit dated.

Great commercial! I like how Wells Fargo is so humble in the fact that they are one of the nation's safest place to bank. Wells Fargo doesn't need to brag about it.
Wells Fargo should keep the so called "dated" logo. It is not just a logo, it's a symbol of stability, honor, and comfort for all americans. Wachovia is a great company and will make a superb addition to Wells Fargo and Company.

Is that a pink Cadillac in the wedding scene? It looks just like my car. Just wondering!

As an employee of Wells Fargo I like the commercial and feel that it is a good introduction of Wells Fargo to the east coast.I feel that with time and a better understanding of the company and its rich history that everyone will better understand why the logo will remain unchanged. Wells Fargo has done an excellent job over the years of building the brand and maintaining a level of recognition that I feel is envied by other companies.

Hey the music from this ad is very catchy! Can you tell me what music was played? Thanks

I have to know what the song is that is playing during this commercial...any ideas?

I like the commercial - the stagecoach is coming East, slowly but surely.

Nice Commercial But When will the Florida Market get Rebranded.

what song is this in the commercial?

I saw the add with other friends, and it caught me by surprise. I am very proud to be an employee of Wachovia, now part of Wells Fargo. Working hard to make things happen.

@Everyone -- Hi! I'm with the Wells Fargo Advertising team that helped develop the new ads. Thanks to everyone for their comments...it's very helpful!

Can you settle our debate?

I am convinced that the voice over talent is Jon Cryer - the divorcee brother in the TV Show Two and a Half Men.

My wife disagrees. If its not him, it sounds a lot like him....

Ann Marie, If your records go back far enough, you will note "Henry Quinn," an emplayee of Wells Fargo around 1895. He was my grandfather, and emigrated from Ireland! Peter Quinn

Listen carefully to the voice, it sounds like Jon Cryer from Two and a Half Men. Am I right?

What is the song in the "Shadow" spot?

I like the song: Contemporary and Upbeat. If this song was available, I would definitely put it on my iPod (kind of tranquil).

For the record, I am a Financial Specialist with Wachovia.

Who's familiar male voice is that in the commercial?

Wow! Am I the only person that has a problem with the "business as usual" line? I would say the public is a bit fed up with business as usual when it comes to their financial institutions. To me it smacks of arrogance.

Love the new commercial. It was very professional. It has been a long time since I have seen any advertising for Wells Fargo.

@Everyone -- Thanks for the comments! I'm glad to see so many of them. The music in the spot is a licensed track called "Poitevin" from a LA music production house. Sadly, it's probably not available for consumer purchase. Thanks also for the questions about the voice-over, but unfortunately we can't disclose his identity due to privacy issues. Sorry!

I think the Wells Fargo brand is one of the greatest assets of the merged companies...a legitimate part of our American heritage that extends far beyond a mere corporate identity...pure gold! The historic name, stagecoach imagery and rich heritage should be pushed to the absolute max. People in the East need to be educated a bit on the heritage, though...commercials could give short snippets of the long history, which also suggests stability. The Wachovia brand, by comparison, is somewhat obscure at best (and I'm a Wachovia customer in Virginia...had never heard of them until the 2001 First Union merger). Ride the stage! Heeya!

I have seen Wells Fargo’s commitment to and belief in Diversity and I would have liked/expected to see a reflection of it in the commercial. With the Wells Fargo-Wachovia merger and coast-to-coast presence, I imagine reaching out to and representing people from all areas of the country and from all ethnic backgrounds would be seen as a plus – potentially reaching a wider consumer audience.

From a Legacy A.G. Edwards employee,it's a great ad. Thank you, in more ways than one!

I think it's Matthew Fox doing the voice-over

Where is the new TV commercial "With you when"

We have an update on that coming soon.

Is it Matthew Fox or Jon Cryer doing the voice-over?

Hey where is that commercial where the dad takes his son to the barber shop- it's at the beginning of the spot..that kid is sooo cute..It's called "With you when" And the dad goes "are you allright? and the kid says "I'm okay dad"..The dad looks at him and he's soo proud of him..It reminds me of my son ..soo cute and believable..It's running now in all markets..

Did you ever find out the answer? I think it is him as well.

I think it is Jon Cryer? is that right?

That commercial rules!!!

I am a Wells Fargo customer that moved to Alabama. I am waiting anxiously for that stagecoach to arrive here. It is very inconvenient to bank without a local branch.

I like the commercial. . .does anyone know what building is shown (the one with the classical columns)?. . .what a beautiful shot!

@ Sugarpad, we're glad you like the commercial. I asked our Advertising group if they knew what building is shown. They said it was a state capitol building, but weren't sure which state.

Hi Ann Marie,
Could you tell me where I can get a copy of the tv ad your ran during the patriot game this weekend?
Cheers Claire
