Back in early March, President Obama unveiled the Making Home Affordable program
, just one component of his administration's attempt to get the economy back on track by helping millions of homeowners avoid foreclosure by restructuring or refinancing their mortgages. Of course, we understand it can get a bit confusing trying to find out just who qualifies, who doesn't, what's required and so on.
That's why we're happy to have our very own Jason Menke shed a little light on and offer some basic info about Making Home Affordable. Jason's an Assistant Vice President and Communications Consultant for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, which means he's sort of like a spokesperson — perfect for a guest blog! So without further ado, heeeeere's Jason....
Thanks, Ann Marie! So during the past several weeks a number of customers have contacted us wanting to know more about President Obama's Making Home Affordable program.
Wells Fargo and Wachovia are supporting it, and we've already started working with customers using two key approaches:
- The Home Affordable Refinance program is designed to help homeowners with a current Fannie Mae- or Freddie Mac-owned loan take advantage of today's lower mortgage rates or help them refinance from an adjustable rate mortgage into the stability of a fixed rate. If you've got a solid payment history on your current mortgage, even if your home has lost some of its value, this portion of the plan may provide some assistance. This portion of the plan is available now through June 2010.
- The Home Affordable Modification program was created to help homeowners avoid foreclosure by reducing their monthly mortgage payments by modifying their existing mortgage. To receive a modification, borrowers will have to provide some documentation regarding their income and provide proof of a financial hardship.
So here's the big question: How do you determine if your Wells Fargo or Wachovia mortgage is eligible for the program?
Well, there are some really cool tools at the Making Home Affordable website, including a "Loan Look Up"
that allows you to determine if your loan is owned by Fannie or Freddie. There are also some basic questionnaires
to help you figure out if you may be eligible for a refinance or a modification.
If the site says you may be eligible for a refinance, feel free to check in with your friendly neighborhood home mortgage consultant to see what next steps you might want to consider.
If the site says a modification may be the most appropriate first step, call the number on your monthly statement to work with our servicing teams.
Besides makinghomeaffordable.gov, you may also want to visit our website for a listing of the documents you'll need to have handy for either a loan modification or a refinance on our own Wells Fargo Home Assist page.
We hope this info is helpful! If you have any follow up questions, please let us know and we'll continue to do our best to answer them.
If the mortgage side would ever return a call I would be happy -100 calls and yet no call back ever
I recieved an email to get my statements on line and be eligilble to win a $10,000 donation to a charity of my choice. Is someone phishing?

Does Wells Fargo or Wichovia assist with FHA mortgages as well? If so, my mortgage notes are current, but I have a home equity line of credit which is current to, but has $30,000.00 past the equity value of the property. Will I be able to qualify for a mortgage refinance or a modification? Thansk for your assistance in advance.
Dana
I like what Jason has to say, but when I've contacted Wachovia, I've been told that they will be participating in the modification program, but not yet. I should wait to receive notice in the mail before I contact Wachovia.
Am I correct to assume that they are want to streamline this process with good planning? Also, how long will it this take?
I have been trying to get Wachovia to modify my loan since last August!! No one returns calls or they just transfer you to someone else. I can't beleive Wachovia/Wells Fargo would actually put this on their website when they are no help at all! I lost my job last May and am now working but at a huge cut in pay. I'm making my minimum payment and I'm current which is probably why noone will talk to me...it's no wonder people are defaulting on their loans intentionally, it's the only way to get any attention! If anyone from Wachovia/Wells Fargo actually reads this stuff I'd love to get a call back!
Hi,
I have been trying to get information about the modification program for at-least a month now. It seems that none of your agents know anything about it. Others say they do not know anything about the home affordable program in general. I have left several messages, made numerous phone calls and have not received any information. Today, 4/25, I received a message to call. I called the number and the person on the phone did not know why Wells Fargo called. He started taking an application for a typical refinance. I then stated I wanted the Obama program and he did not know anything about it. He then gave me a number with the modification department and it was the wrong number. Is Wells Fargo really participating in this, or is it just false advertising? It does not seem that this program is really helping anyone. If others have figured it out, I would like to know how to talk to the right person. I would love some help. We have a small business and are having a hard time making our payments. We have perfect credit and want to do what is right.
I have been in communication with wells fargo for weeks, and sadly i am just now getting the ball rolling on the mortgage modification process. There were several occasions where the person who answered my calls told me not to use this program and tried to talk me into a refinance that would not at all benifit me. I spent one night on hold for 2.5 hours wating to talk to "the person that specifically deals with my scenario" and no one ever answered i was just hung up on after all that waiting. I know this is a new process but it has been so very hard to work with wells fargo for this program. By all the standards on the .gov website i qualify for this program, but i have been told that the processing and qualification through wells can take up to 90 days. I am very unhappy with the way i have been treated throughout this process, and i hope that wells will stop dropping the ball on this.
Thank you for your blog post.
However, I have run into some problems assisting my mom with her Wachovia-backed loan. Alot of the customer representatives, from her loan officer at her local branch, to the mortgage specialists on the phones are offering alot of misinformation, etc.
My mom was told by her local branch office was told that she qualified for a Loan Modification. She was told to call a Wells Fargo number. Well, the Wells Fargo people laughed and told her that Wachovia branch officer was incorrect.
I had to call Wachovia's general hotline and got led around and around. FINALLY! When speaking to a mortgage specialist over the phone, she was told her Wachovia loan was backed by Fannie Mae. They referred me to their Loss Mitigation Department for all Making Home Affordable program questions.
So, I call up their Loss Mitigation Department (which btw is SLAMMED! call early!) who tells me that they only handle Loan Modifications and that my mom would need to go to her local branch to speak to a loan specialist for a refinance?! I told them quite clearly that the Mortgage specialists told us that the only people who could assist her was the Loss MItigation department.
So, now, I am completely lost. My mom's loan officer obviously told her some incorrect information:
A) Her loan WAS backed by Fannie Mae as certified by several Wachovia representatives
B) She may be qualified for a refinance but only refererred my mom to phone specialists, etc. and offered NO ASSISTANCE from her part after nearly a week of not doing anything on her part. I had to call Wachovia directly to get information.
At this point, I'm really disappointed by Wachovia. I've met some really nice folks who've tried to assist me but have caused me more headaches and time lost in clearing up mistakes, confusion on their part. Please help!
Who is the right people to handle the Home Affordable Refinance Program?
Please see this as a cautionary story. If anyone can assist, please get in touch.
I am trying to refi my wells mortgage (current, no lates) with the making home affordable refi program but can't figure out how to start the process. I do not want a standard wells refi, it has to be a making home affordable refi. It is owned by freddie mac. thank you
@ David, thanks for posting. Your comment has been forwarded to the appropriate contact to make them aware of the situation.
@ Cindy W. your comment has been forwarded to Wachovia's Mortgage service group.
For 13 months I have been in constant touch with Wells Fargo trying to work out a modification as my loan payments went up from $3000 to $4800 because of a 2/6 libor ARM. Twice I have been through the "make three payments on time plan" (the first time my paperwork was "misplaced" at WF. I was apologized to and told to do it again. It took another two months to get the process set up again. I just finished my three more payments of $3500. I was told both times that if I made the payments on time then the $20,000 outstanding from the months of difference in $3500 payment to $4800 payment would be put to the back of the loan. I called in this past month when it was complete and the WF spokesperson said to send in a third request for modification and another round of the same financial information that WF has taken multiple times. Not one time have I ever been late on my payments. I have jumped through every hoop that WF has requested. Instead I just received a letter that the $20,000 was now due to WF. No letter of your payments were completed timely and the Loss Mitigation/Modification committee will be in touch.
I asked the spokesperson about the Making Homes Affordable. She didn't know much but said I could write a letter and request. NOT what the Web site says that WF will be sending letters out to homeowners that might qualify for a modification, etc.
QUESTION: Has WF actually done any modifications? I feel like I have been in a hamster wheel for over a year. Also, has WF actually set up any new loans that have been modified to the Making Homes Affordable?
WF needs MORE than just a marketing/PR site--they need a major overhaul of their Call Center. Your consumers would really appreciate ONE customer rep that they deal with from start to finish. What a duplication of time and effort and waste of resources to be sent (by phone) to a different office all over the U.S.
You need to go straight to the executive dept. instead of calling, make copies of all the docs that are needed along with your hardship letter and send them to a senior officer by certified mail. you can get this information online. I have been through what you've been through. You will get nowhere unless you go directly to the top.
I have read and followed everything to the letter on Making Home Affordable. I have a hardship and my home is undervalued. I have sent my hardship letter, financials and proof of income. My wait is up to 2 months now. It almost feels like you are waiting to get on a carnival ride and they keep putting you at the back of the line. My hardship is my ill son and this does not seem to matter with Wells Fargo. Has anyone heard of moving this line a bit faster due to urgency? I am current on my mortgage but barely hanging in there. Please Wells Fargo--get things moving, get up to speed on how to implement this plan. We are suffering!!!
Appreciate the honest feedback everyone. Admittedly, we're still in the very early stages of implementing this program, and we may be waiting to return your call when we are able to help with your specific request. While we'd like everything to run perfectly, we sometimes miss. If you included your e-mail address when you posted your comment, we'll forward it on to the appropriate people and have them follow up with you directly. It may take a little time, but we want to make sure we connect you with someone who can get you started down the right path to determine what your options are.
I have been waiting since October for Wells Fargo to complete the review of my loan modification. Now my home is in foreclosure, and a sale date has been set, but the loss mitigation department still is working on my review. It was my understanding that all foreclosure motions would be suspended during the loan modification review process, but it is not the case. I call Wells Fargo on a weekly basis, yet still no final answer on my modification. I have less than three weeks before my home is sold and I am no closer to having my loan modified than I was in Ocotober.
I thought I qualified for the Making Home Affordable Modification, we are current with no late payments..my mortgage is over 31% of my monthly gross. I have my loan through Wells Fargo and it isn't back through Fannie or Freddie. According to the gov't website for Modifications under their FAQ section, you don't have to have your loan secured thru Fannie or Freddie to qualify for the Modification. I contacted Wells Fargo and was told by two representatives that you do need to have a Freddie or Fannie backed loan in order to qualify for the Modification. When told them that I was on the government website and read to them verbatim what it said. They said that that was wrong information and they are getting a team from Wells Fargo to contact the Making Home Affordable website team to correct it to reflect that all loans for Modifications & Refinance have to have Freddie or Fannie. I think that this is all a bit confusing. In essence the government is telling me that I qualify but Wells Fargo is telling me that I don't. Is Wells Fargo giving out the wrong information?
Wachovia is a joke ! I have contacted 7 on your side . We have been calling them for 6 months now . We have gotton the run around . Different answers from everyone . The reps have no idea what they are talking about and when we talk to the loan counseling department they keep telling us to call back and thats now been 6 months . Its a joke .
I sent in my loan mod application - pay stubs, hardship, and cash flow analysis on December 8, 2008, and call EVERY single week since then. Initially they said I'd be taken care of in 60-90 days, now they keep telling me, they are backed up and to continue calling every week. I'm getting very impatient with Wells Fargo and their customer service. I want to feel like I am making some sort of progress, but nothing! I feel like my file is sitting idle, and this is a waste of my time.
Please HELP! I have been to a HUD counselor' a HOPE line counselor; made numerous phone calls to Wachovia concerning a Home Loan Modification as outlined by President Obama. Wells Fargo owns Wachovia right?? Why is it that "jerry" @ Wachovia Mortgage advised me that Wachovia has no guidelines for President Obama's plans? So what does that mean? I lose my home while Wachovia is waiting for guidelies from Wells Fargo? That doesn't make sense. Please get me to the right person(s).
Thank You
I have two questions. First is Wells Fargo planning on modifying any loans for those people who are in a Chapter 13 bankruptcy? I call all the time and get the same general answer. "We've heard something may happen but not sure when". No on who works there seems to know anything. Second question is after the bankruptcy is discharged credit is not good at all. Does Wells Fargo use credit to determine loan modifications? What about credit and Obama's program?
Trying to get a 1-2-3 refi or loan modification with Wells Fargo Bank is like going into a hampster's wheel. Around and around, going no where for months. Have never even been late on my mortgage payment with the bailout bums for 7 years and they treated me like dirt. All I wanted to do was extend my loan to lower the payment. All they wanted to do was CYA their jobs by keeping me on the hook for months, talking to rude, clueless employees. Today Wells Fargo is requesting 15 Billion more in bailout money. Bailout should be going directly to borrowers not Wells Fargo to have a big vacation in AZ. Obama programs to help people do not exist, he is smoke & mirrors, just like Wells Fargo. my hope dashed. Don't waste your time with this company.
@ Jon, in response to your question on May 6, I have forwarded your comments to the Mortgage team who should be in touch with you soon.
Well, I want to know when Wachovia is starting to work with their customers for the home affordability program. I have been calling since April & no one from Customer Service seems to know when this program is going to be avvailable. Please help & give me hope. Sue...
Hi Jason (the one in the photo above). Can you tell the (many) frustrated any good comments about the "Making home affordable" I have just been told that I have moved a step to the loss mitigation. I have been assigned a negotiator Ms Vanetta Gaddy. I understand she is negotiating my loan with the existing investors. Can I talk with this lady??????????? I would love to hear her thoughts. She is deciding my financial future--do I get a say in the matter??
I'm having the same problem everyone else is having. I'm current on my mortgage and have been a Wells Fargo customer for over twenty years. I've called WF consistently for over a month now and I can't seem to find one person who knows what they are talking about or that has any details on the Making Home Affordable Freddie Mac refinance. Or I'm told someone will call me back. Someone did call me back once, but does not know the details of this program. Meanwhile, the interest rate has already gone up a half a point. Is doesn't seem as if Wells Fargo is willing to offer their customers this option and is not happy about lowering their interest rate. What is the sense in having these programs available if Wells Fargo is uncooperative? I'm thoroughly disgusted. And I'm sure this comment will be ignored.
I too have been calling every week. My loan resets in July and I am now desperate since I will not be able to afford this final reset. My family is desperate and Wachovia keeps telling me they are waiting to get their plans in place. First it is March 15, then April 15 then May 15 then I don't know who told you those dates.
Chase announced they have already modified 15,000 under the plan. This is very disappointing. I truly don't know what to do at this point and wish Wachovia could contact me with some hope.
:(
When I bought my house in November 2006 it was financed with a first and second mortgage at extremely high ARMs. I only accepted the terms because mortgage broker (employed by Wells Fargo and a local mortgage comapny) PROMISED me that with his help I would be able to refinance in one year to a lower fixed rate that combined the first and second mortgage. I called him one year to the day later and he told me that unfortunately "things have changed" and I would have to wait another year. I contacted him 2 years later and was told that he could definately get me a loan but he was concerned that the appraisal wouldn't be for enough to compensate for the falling home values in my area. The mortgage broker then suggested that I contact Wells Fargo about a modification rather than a refinance. When I asked for more details he simply stopped responding. I've been reading web sites about the Home Affordability Plan and I think I've read everything on the Wells Fargo site and con not understand why he told me to try for a modification. I've never missed a payment or been late on a payment. I miss being at the 31% mark by about $100. Before the Home Affordability Plan become a reality I had received a letter from Wells Fargo telling me that I may be eligible to refinance with them. However, as in the case of other posters, I am never treated well when I attempt to talk with Wells Fargo representatives. Or, if I do talk with somebody at Wells Fargo who seems interested in helping they are often so uniformed that even I understand more about the Home Affordability Plan than they do. It's now been over 2 months and I haven't received help from anyone -- no help from the government, the mortgage broker or Wells Fargo. Something is very wrong with this situation and I will be contacting my legislative representatives and my attorney to find out what in the world I have to do to get some help.
I have been calling Wells Fargo since March 4th. I have been asking each customer service rep to help me with the Home Affordability Modification Plan. Each time I seem to get another answer. I was first told that I would be contacted within 1 week then I was told that I was on a list. Once some more time went by I called again ans was told that a packet would be sent to me to fill out. 2 weeks went by and no packet ever came so I called again. The lady I spoke with yesterday told me that I would be put back on the list. I am in desperate need of assistance and I never thought it would be this hard to take advantage of a plan that Obama rolled out to help people just like me. Please call me back send me a packet or whatever, just help.
Jason Menke and Doug C.,
You've got a problem on your hands. There's just too much anecdotal evidence here to conclude anything other than WFC is full of bull.
Jason you say: "...and we may be waiting to return your call when we are able to help with your specific request."
Are you kidding me? You all are in the customer service business and dang well better return every single phone call -- PERIOD! You'd be demoted or out of a job if I was your boss and saw an absurd comment like that, what a LAME excuse.
Clearly these programs your CFO touts so prominently during his TV interviews really aren't be folowed up on at the local level.
You all should be ashamed.
I have been attempting to refi under HARP through Wachovia. Was kicked over to Wells. Was preapproved for a HARP refi, then told that Wells was not processing HARP refis for Wachovia. No one - at Wells or Wachovia - seems to understand 1. What HARP is; 2. Who is handling HARP refis for Wachovia.
Why has my most recent post not been added? Are you screening the posts now??
@4th Ward - We're sorry for the delay, but yes, we do moderate comments based on our published Comment Guidelines. We were on the fence on this comment because it seemed to us a personal attack against Jason and Doug (prohibited in our guidelines), but decided in the end to err on the side of transparency, to continue to encourage dialogue.
I lost my job in Nov., '08, but have remained current on my Pick-a-Pay mortgage. I contacted Wachovia in February and was approved for a 90-day deferrment. I've since contacted Wachovia 4 times and have been told something different each time I call. The first time, I was told the Making Home Affordable programs were going to be available in April. The availability date has been pushed back each time I called. Now I'm told late June even though a number of other lenders are in full swing with these programs. Why is Wells Fargo/Wachovia dragging their feet?
I requested the making home affordable as well, but was told I had to make three payments of 3400 first. This is extemely difficult and is my entire paycheck. Anyway, I hope I don't have to go thru what one of these posters went thru. I agree that their boasting about this program seems to be only for pr purposes. I would like to see statistics of people they have actually helped.
The President/CEO is John Stumpf. You can find his information on line. This is how you can cut through all the bologne. This is addressed to one of the posters asking who the Chairman was.
To Missouri homeowner, I am from CA. You could put in a complaint to the Comptroller. Here in CA it is called the OCC. They control the banks. You can go online and make a complaint.
I am on a Wachovia Pick a Payment loan. I've been working with them for over 3 months as part of a special loan modification prgm with no fees, no points. Sound too good to be true? It was. They finally declined me saying i needed to pay off my home equity line first. I told them i'd be glad to do that, will bring check in hand so that i can get this process finished, but NO, they say all systems are shut down. They can't/won't open my file anymore. I have to start all over with WF and now i have to pay points and closings costs. Sounds like a scam? Bait and switch? I don't know but if there's anyone out there from WF that can help me I would appreciate some direction. As a long time PMA customer I would expect better customer service than I've been receiving.
After almost an hour on the phone today with Wachovia talking to many different people, I was finally told that they are not processing Freddie Mac loans (for HARP refinance)at this time, and they might later in a month or two. Is this true? If so, what is the date?
I’ve been trying to get help on the Home Affordable Refinance since October 2008 and till this day 5/18/09 I’m still hearing the same thing Wachovia will be sending out letter to the client how qualify then I get informed since the merge with Well’s Fargo the process is going to take longer. Mean while my loan raises and my equity lowers I called there number put I just hear the same run around and left in the dark. How dare they put up this web-page!! Both my spouse & I lost our jobs back in 5/2007 and been making the minimum payment yet there no help coming from Wachovia nor do they care for there customers.
@ Mark, I am looking for an answer to your question posted on May 15. As soon as I hear back from the Mortgage team, I will post their response.
@ Lisa, I just sent you an email looking for additional information on your loan. Once I hear from you, I will forward to our Mortgage team.
I lost my job a while back, but have been keeping up on my mortgage payments. My funds are running low, so I proposed a plan to re-finance my mortgage with a cash out. The cash out would pay off bills, giving me more money to live off, and add that to the lower mortgage payments and I would be able to continue making my payments without any problems.
Except, Wells Fargo will not do the refinance because I do not have a job.
Sounds counter-intuitive. The only reason I want to do this refinance is because I lost my job and this is the only way I can keep paying on my mortgage, but I can't get the loan because I lost my job.
Sounds like, contrary to the promises of helping homeowners, Wells Fargo continues to operate with the mindless procedures of the pre-bailout days.
I say mindless because, making the loan makes sense for Wells Fargo as well. if I am turned down because I can not show that I can comfortably pay the new $900 loan, then how do they think I can continue to pay for the current $1200 loan with $500 a month in other debt payments.
I followed all the steps on the website etc. I did check in with my friendly neighborhood home mortgage consultant. That's when my nightmare with Wachovia began. HORRIBLE customer service. Intentionally telling me I did NOT qualify for help because my loan is not fannie/freddie, then recapitulating when I brought up that less than 1% or their loans are and the modification portion was what applied, that is when they hemmed and hawed and said they don't know if that's realyy going to happen even though they say they are participating, They say if they decide to help the 99% of the loans they handle, it may roll out around the middle of April-now they say the middle of june, but no gaurantee, they just want to SAY they'll help but they DO NOT HELP. They lie and when I ask to speak to a supervisor, the say I'm talking to management and it's really just another employee pretending.(found this out from a wells fargo employee who actually gave me Ed Zavala's manager (Ed surreptiously listened in on a conversation I was having with a wells fargo employee, he blurted something out on accident then hung up-she and I were so upset by this breech that she gave me his supervisor's name and number and encouraged me to complain. I called many times but, NO ONE GOT BACK TO ME . No surprise there, no one at the bank really cares if their employees lie and eavesdrop as long as they get away with it. They lied about extension #'s saying they don't exist-I call right back using the said non existant extension # and get Ed Zavala again-because he was lying to me. But, then everybody I've ever talked to at Wachovia is a liar except for one woman I talked to who told me I was right and that they are liars, I guess listening in on customers is just one of the illegal practices condoned by this bank I have begged for help ( my husband has terminal cancer/no bankruptcy/no missed payments/ need help - bank just pushes me off. No comment, no info., no help. Looking up regulatory agencies tomorrow i guess, that should be fun. Of course, nothing will come of this complaint either. They have all the power and don't care one iota about me even though it's sounds good on their website to pretend they do.
We have suffered a serious and permanent medical hardship with our son last May 2008. Since then, I've been home to take care of him and can only usually work 2-3 days per month, which is obviously a HUGE decrease in our income (which our mortgage was originally approved on). I've contacted Wells Fargo on 3/4/09 and sent a letter of hardship (and a letter from our son's Pediatrician verifying his medical status) with our income documentation and I requested to be evaluated for the modification program under the President's plan. I was beside myself to receive a letter back yesterday stating that they are giving us a moratorium for 3 months so we can "determine how you can resolve or improve your financial situation". Honestly, what good does that do us? We can barely stay current now, and then they want all 3 months due at one time?!! Where is the justice?
I've tried calling several times to speak to someone who knows anything, however that is impossible. I'm not allowed to speak to the "negotiator" directly and so I have to keep requesting that they email her to have her call me, as to which I have still not been called.
I did have one cust. service agent tell me that Wells Fargo is not set up for the Presiden'ts plan and that this was my only option right now.
I'm disgusted already! We have 3 other young children we are trying to raise. We've scaled down on budget to a bare minimum. I'm trying to feed a family of 6 (ages 10mos, 2yrs, 8 years, 10 yrs) on $350/month and sometimes we have to go without milk for a couple of weeks until we are paid again because diapers are more of a priority right now! Someone help us!!!!
I lost my job a year ago this month because my 5 year old son was diagnosed with a life threatening cancer, neuroblastoma. We are currently flying to NY for a week of treatments each month. It is down to the wire, financially, for us! We cannot hold on much longer.. We have always structured our lives to live within our means...
I have applied for your help online and received 3 phone calls from you, for collection purposes only. It was stated in the last conversation that a letter would be sent shortly, this has been a month ago, indicating how Wells Fargo could help us in keeping our home.
I am in hopes this letter will encourage an employee of Wells Fargo --to look into our situation & figure out how long from now help will be...because we are waiting for your options!
Dear Joshua's Mom
I think you misunderstand.
See moratorium definition below:
a formally agreed period during which an activity is halted or a planned activity is postponed
a period during which a person, usually a debtor, has the right to postpone meeting an obligation
Hope this helps!
To Kathleen:
I appreciate you responding to my question/letter, however, I am not misunderstanding the letter that was sent to me. It specifically states that on 9/1/09 $8,819.16 is due, which is the next 3 months of mortgage payments plus September's payment.
I want to know why we are not being given a modification under the President's plan when we fit several of the criteria to meet eligibility: reduced income, mortgage payment is greater than 31% of our gross income (it's at 40%), we are suffering due to a permanent medical hardship. WHY? WHY? WHY? That's what I want to know.
I'm just astounded by the comments here -- clearly there is LOTS of work to be done. Certainly these blogs have an element of adverse selection in terms of comments made but the specific stories detailed here demand a response by Wells Fargo. A real response, not some little @footnote in this blog. Probably won't be long before some politician gets ahold of this information.
Josh's Mom,
And here I thought maybe it would be good news. I really hope something works out for you between now an September. I can't imagine having a sick child and the stress of the looming payment.
I have you and your son in my thoughts -
All comments posted regarding their horrible experience with Wachovia are true. I can emphatize & symphatize with you. I've been calling my lender for several months but did not find the right answer. It seems like a delaying tactics. I'm sure they are already working out on govt assistance program to few lucky homeowners but many of feel like hanging on a limbo waiting for nothing. How soon Wachovia/Wfargo work this out? I hope they act fast before too late.
May GOD bless all of us waiting for the loan mod govt assistance program.
On the Wells Fargo Making Home Affordable Website there is only the initial 3/4/09 press release saying "be patient." There is this blog from with Jason saying we are in the "early stages."
The program is only through 6/2010. According to Freddie Mac we qualify. I called Wells Fargo and was told to check the website which I check weekly. Other than this blog there is no news. The plan is almost 100 days old.
When will we be able to refinance under the plan??? Can someone contact me to refinance?
Thanks
I am a current employee at WF. I have been waiting since March to remodify my loan and have received no answers or information even though I have sent in all the information necessary for the remod. I have spoken to only one other person who has applied for the loan modification and she is receiving letters and phone calls from WF working on her remod. I have been calling every week, at least twice, to ask if anything has changed and they say no, call back next week. I am guessing that my situation is not as "bad" as the other woman's or something since I haven't heard from anyone. I would appreciate an update or a timeline or some kind of information so I know someone is working on my situation.
My husband and I have been trying to work with Wells Fargo since August 2008 when my husband's income was reduced...then he had to switch jobs three times in order to finally get a job that we could pay our bills. We have sent three hardship letters, three income/expense reports, pay stubs, tax info. etc. all that they asked for each time....and to this day..NOTHING! We just don't know what to do. Let them come get the house and try to sell it if that's what they want. I just wish they would tell us SOMETHING one way or the other!
My wife lost her job about 3 months ago and hasn't had luck finding one. I contacted Wells Fargo as out loan is serviced by them but owned by Fannie Mae. After about 2 months of calls and sending in a hardship letter, paystub, last years taxes. I have been told that my loan is in the HAMP process pending approval. So now I guess I just wait and pray the approve me. I am hoping that since I have gotten this far that something good will come from it. We really can't afford to be in the home much longer without some kind of modification. We have never been late, but our savings are going down quick. Just wish Wells could give a little more input...
Did you ever get your home modified with Wells Fargo? I've been under review since December and May 21, I received a denial letter and now my home is under review for a short sale. They offered no options just a short sale or foreclosure
Dear Bloggers, It’s time to take your commentary one step further. Here’s a link to President Obama’s website. www.whitehouse.gov/contact/ He’s encouraging commentary on the issues which concern us . It’s hard to see so many stories of hopelessness, frustration and despair. All we’re asking for is the help that was promised to us in Obama’s “Making Home Affordable Program”. If you’re not sure what that program is here’s a link which talks about it www.whitehouse.gov/blog/Protecting-Homeowners-Protecting-the-Economy/ If you don’t think you’re getting that help then you should let the President know what you think about it. The more emails he gets about what’s going on the more it might help to make your case for “real” help. If you’ve already detailed your story in this blog, then be sure to include a link to this blog in your email to the President, just as we did. Good Luck.

My mother has been trying to work with wells fargo to modify her loan for MONTHS!! she was turned down for a traditional refinance because her debt to income ratio was too high. So she tried to modify under HARP. now they are telling her that she might be better off with a regular refinance. You must be kidding me right??? Every time she calls it is a different answer and it seems like she is getting no where. Are they waiting for people to default so they dont qualify at all? I can't believe that a business is allowing this. It is really disappointing!

Hello Mods, Just like others wanting to refinance under HARP for a Freedie Mac loan serviced by Wachovia. I've called multiple times since March and have not gotten accurate information yet. I keep getting transferred from dept. to dept. and keep getting told the program is being implemented but not ETA. Can someone please at least let us know the correct phone # to call to get info on HARP and why does Wells Fargo now accept HARP applications but they cannot accept Wachovia loans, when they both are the same company? Its all so frustrating.
OK, what's up !!! We have been working with Wells Fargo since Dec '08 trying to get our loan modified. About 4 mos. ago we were informed that we were approved for a loan mod. About 2 mos. ago WF sent someone to our home to appraise it. We’ve called almost weekly since to get status on the process and have been told that they’re awaiting Obama’s decision. We were told this up until the end of May … now we’re being told that WF is waiting to see what the FHA is going to do?
We have friends who just contacted Wachovia less than1 month ago. They received a call back 4 days after submitting an application and were told they were approved. 2 days ago they were told that they would be getting a mod to excuse almost $100,000 of their loan and drop the payments to half of what they’re currently paying. So … again I ask what’s up. Why are we … who’ve been working with WF for almost 6 mos. being given the run around and they have had their application and loan mod. approved almost instantaneously (no slam on our friends because we’re happy for them). If we were accepted, then why aren’t we getting any help? Can we get some feedback on this? We’d be glad to give you the loan no. and all pertinent info. offline so someone can get back to us and follow up.
One final note. We’re on time with our payments and trying to hold on, but this has gone on so long we may no longer be able to continue to do this. Like others, we’ve been told that as long as we’ve been accepted for a loan mod. there would be no foreclosure action taken if we get to a place where we can no longer make payments. The problem: WF refuses to put this down in writing. Whereas we’ve been asked 3 times for proof in the form supporting documentation; be it a hardship letter, financial statements and pay stubs, we have yet to receive one piece of paperwork in which WF will stand behind their word. Very alarming, especially hearing what others who’ve trusted WF are going through.
We’ve sent 2 other comments before, none of which have made it on the blog. Hope this one will. We are running out of faith and patience with WF. To hopefully assure that we do not continue to fall through the cracks we are simultaneously writing directly to the Obama contact information we discovered. We are persistent people and we will not give up. We only hope that our time does not run out before someone at WF will follow through.
I have a Pick a Payment Mortg. and I need help. All of your press releases say that these loans are bad debt and you want rid of them. I have tried since January to refinance, with you all and then with an independent, who left town. Obviously, I was unsuccessful. I have been making my min. payment, but totally unable to make my full PITI payment and thus continue to go further and further down. I recently had 9 NSF's trying to keep my mortgage going. That account is with you all, as well, so you can see that. Everytime I call I am told that there is no program to help me. Yet, when I go on-line, your own press releases go on and on about how you have programs in place through your wonderful merger to help people like me, who are struggling:
"Wells Fargo has implemented a new Wachovia loan modification program to help troubled mortgage holders keep foreclosure at bay." "Particularly if you have a "Pick a Payment" type of loan, you will be very interested in the loan modification program's details."
I call constantly and just get transferred around and told by highly UN-TRAINED representatives that they dont have any information on how to modify these loans and they hear that information might be coming, but they dont know what to do. I have also spoken with Supervisors, who say the same. Yet, I can go on-line and google Wachovia Loan Modification and see the information:
"Under the Wachovia loan modification plan, borrowers that are either in default or in danger of falling behind can get financial help."
The local Wells Fargo Representative gave me the number to World Savings loss mitigation and that was a TOTAl nightmare. He assured me that they could help and then the girl told me she could not even pull up my loan, unless I didnt make my payment? I have worked really hard my whole life to keep my credit score good and to try and pay on time, however from everything you all are saying now, unless I stop making my payment you cant help me. I have had to sacrifice making other payments and like I said had numerous NSF's to try and keep at least the minimum with you all, although I continue to build neg. equity this way because of my Pick a Payment loan. It was offered to me that I could maybe skip a payment and put it on the end to try and help, but to me, this seems really stupid, considering I am already in the negative posisiton? Since I am not Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac and my house is worth right at what I owe on it, you all denied my attempts to refi. I have tried to get you to help me with a modification and you wont do that either.
However, when I go to the site I show here, it indicates that I do qualify for a modification and that I
should contact you all. Since this is the government sight where is the disconnect?
makinghomeaffordable.gov/modification_eligibility.html
Obviously, I am not the only one who is having such a terrible time with this company. I work for T-Mobile, and it is ashame that on your own BLOG, everyone has the same story and yet now one is helping us.
blog.wellsfargo.com/wachovia/2009/04/explaining_the_making_home_aff.html
I hope you can see that I am really trying. Since no matter what, you all own the loan, why not help me be able to get out of a program that is bad for you and your company and work with me so it can be good for both?
"Many borrowers hold the risky Pick A Payment loans and desperately need a Wachovia loan modification to convert those loans into affordable, low interest rate mortgages. Wells Fargo is now the investor holding those loans, and faces the prospect of enormous losses from this $120 billion portfolio, due to the high default rate these programs experience."
I dont want to stop making the payment, but from what your representatives have told me, this is the only way for the loss mitigation department to be able to see my loan and thus the only way to help? However, like the others who took the time to write their feedback on the site referenced above, I am sure that I too will be ignored.

Is WF actually sending out applications for the Home Affordable Modification program? I have contacted them twice (5-7 & 5-26) and have been told the application had/would be sent within 10 days.
Still have not received anything.
I have gone thru the WF Home assist website and sent my info in for someone to call or e-mail me at least 5 times over the last month. I have yet to be contacted.
You are not alone obviously. I am told that the gonvernment modification (Obama march 4 2009) passed, will not be coming until the end of June now MAYBE! Every month since March I have called and have had the run around. truly, I do not think that Wachovia is equipped w/ the manpower to do these loans. I have so many #s for Wachovia. I was told to try and do a modification through Wachovia (not the gonvermnet modification) but the person was not sure if my chances of doing the gonverment mod would be ok if I had a Wachovia loan. So not sure IF I am accepted to do this loan, I should as the government loan sounds much better. But who knows, some of us may not even qualify when and IF Wachovia does them. This is a complete JOKE and I am just venting. I also have a pick a pay loan and am only paying the deferred payment.
All in all, I call them daily to get different answers. I am waiting until around June 15th (which is next week) to make yet ANOTHER call to them. Most of the people I have spoken to have lost their jobs already since they are merging.
GOOD LUCK. . and I would not think about skipping payments. that is crazy. Keep your payments flowing as soon as you skip a payment they will tell you you do NOT qualify for something.
For over 5 months(when my company closed)we have been waiting for Wells Fargo to assist us. We gave all the requisite hardship information at that time. We call weekly and are told the same thing--we are one of many and we just need to wait. We have waited patiently. And we have paid even though it gets harder and harder. We are at the point now where we have to make hard decisions. It is like Wells Fargo waits for you to default before they will act. This is sad.
An Update: Talked to Wachovia Corp. Financing today. Was told the HARP (refinance program) for FreddieMac Loans serviced by Wachovia will only be implemented in October when all Wachovia serviced loans will transfer to Wells Fargo. FYI Take for whatever its worth.
I applied to Wells Fargo two months ago for the Home Affordability Refinance Program. I submitted our pay stubs and the financial statement as described by the person on the phone when I called.
Two months later and I still haven't had anyone that knows anything contact me.
I have called at least 6 times since. Once, they told me I needed to re-submit my pay stubs because they were "old" now. I also had to redo my financial statement. Then I was told that a "real" application would be coming in the mail that I would need to fill out. Never came. I called back and was told that information was incorrect.
The problem is that my house has depreciated. If I keep getting the runaround, it may not appraise for what it needs to and I won't be eligible anymore.
I know someone that had the same problem with Citibank and was told by a rep there that the only way he would get attention was to stop making payments. He stopped. It worked. Appraisal was ordered right away, completed and his mortgage was adjusted.
Last I heard it was still under review with no estimate for when I could expect to hear something.
I read the explanation of the Obama legislation directly from the gov. website, and there are 2 programs. One is a refi and that is for the Freddie/Fannie loans, but it is my understanding that you have to have been current for the past 12 months in order to qualify. The other is a modification through your loan servicer and has nothing to do with whether your loan is back by Freddie or Fannie. I think WF gave you the wrong information. I was told by someone in the loss mitigation department not to pay much attention to the people you get when you call the main #, b/c they don't specialize in these modifications and really don't know anything about it. If you look on some of the blogs for a number for the "executive team", I think you might be able to get in contact with someone who can expedidite things.
I have asking about the HAMP ever since 02/2009 as of yesterday I was told that in a couple of weeks they will be contacting Wachovia customers. I stopped making my mortgage payment as of 05/15/09, I was told that by July 15, 2009 foreclosure will start. I really want to work things out, but am not having luck. I got behind and it seems that the HAMP will never get here. Does anyone have a number that I can contact Wachovia to see if I can work something out with them before the foreclosure starts. Need Help.....
My husband and I have been trying since March to refi through the Making Home Affordable Refi program with WF. We have had no luck. We have been told many different things by many different people. We are current on our payments but just barely hanging on. We need help soon! After 2 months, we were told we didn't qualify for a mod b/c we were current but we didn't even want a mod, we wanted a refi. So, more time, more paperwork and we were told b/c our loan has PMI, we don't qualify for the refi. WHAT? Don't most loans have PMI? Where do we turn for help?
I send good thoughts and well wishes to all of the rest of you who are going through this too!
I started the modification process the moment I knew I would have trouble making the payments (the first week of April by faxing all the required documents). A month later I call WF for an updated status. There is no info. I call every week after that until June when a WF representative FINALLY tells me that my documents were never received. I fax them again. By this time three months have passed. Since I have a Chapt.13 bankruptcy (filed Dec.08)WF told me that the Loss Mitigation Dept. could not handle my request and there is only ONE person that deals with modifications while in bankruptcy. Needless to say, this ONE person is going to be overworked and overwhelmed by requests. It is now July and WF hired attorney's to lift my bankruptcy so they can start foreclosure proceedings. To make matters worse I contacted WF Executive offices yesterday for info and I was told that my modification application has been denied and I received no explanation as to WHY it was denied! I was also informed that my file is still under review to see if there is any way they can help me. I can no longer afford my mortgage payments due to health issues that have prevented me from working the past year and I have no idea how I'm going to prevent foreclosure. The Making Home Affordable Modification was an ideal option for me since all I needed to do was lower my monthly payments to 31% of my income (I'm at 60% now), as stated by Pres. Obama's outline of the plan. The Making Home Affordable Program is useless when companies refuse to help their customers.
We started the loan modification process in January. For background information I am an inactive attorney and my husband is a CPA.
Wells Fargo has repeately "lost" our paper work or outright lied to us on the phone about our paper work. For shame! If people as educated as myself and my husband cannot seem to make any progress, how can we expect people to do this.
I am on the phone right this minute -we sent in the last batch 2 weeks ago -twice I add-and again they are insisting that they do not have this. I think it is time for a class action lawsuit -don't you.
I have been waiting since Feburuary, they said they stopped all until they got the program going. I have been in review Since April 6, 2009, it is now the end of July
Hi There
I applied for the Mortgage Modification Program in Feb. 2009 hoping for some help with our mortgage. I faxed all paperwork and waited. March Nothing, April Nothing, May Nothing, all the while calling every week, just to hear we are working on your Modification, but it will be another 40 to 90 days. Finally in July 2009 we are told that we have been approved for Mod. Then the very next day I get a letter from WF informing me we have been denied, my heart sank into a dark place, all night I kept thinking what are we going to do? where are we going to go? What a LOSER I'am as a Husband, Father, a Man.
The next morning I called WF just to find out that the letter was a form letter and that we where still in line for Mod. That was a cold thing to do to anyone.
Then just yesterday I recieved a letter telling us WF is going to start Foreclosure Action on our home. I pray this is just another form letter, if it is, does anyone at WF talk to anyone? These are very dark times for all of us going through this process, plus it's not something we all want to do,but like so many, I too lost my job. and am now working at a job making half of what I was making. I'm not asking for special treatment, just asking for you to remember that we a People just trying to save our homes.
Wells Fargo you have the most to gain by helping all of us.We will become Wells Fargo Forever Customers I myself have never forgot those who reached out to me with a helping hand or a kind word in my time of need. I call them friends and I know I can forever call on them if ever I need them.
Wells Fargo My We All Call You Friend?
We had the same trouble for months, being on hold - given the runaround. Then we were approved for a forbearence program. They have been taking out of our account a reduced amount till the pick the right loan program for us. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS PROGRAM
They are now saying we did not make these payments and started a forclosure on us. THEY TOOK THE PAYMENTS OUT. Now we have to get a lawyer and go to court. This is crazy!
I am trying to get in line for the Obama Modification Program through Wells Farge and it has been 3 months now. I have no idea where I am in the process and can't find anyone who has been approved and is in this program. I don't want Wells Fargo to modify this loan because the Home is worth 20% less then I owe and my monthly is 60% of my income.
I have been contacting you for several months, submitted all the required paperwork and told that your loan assistance program could not help me since I was not behind on a payment. I was also told just yesteday that you are not doing the home affordable program. I have since hired someone to asst me with this before I lose my house. Struggling to make my payments, never late, but I am going to be late this month.
I have been calling WF for months now to no avail. I have a fannie mae loan that meets the refinance criteria from Making Home Affordable. I have been told 10 different reasons why I cannot refinance. The latest from Adam who told me that the government bill states that loans with PMI cannot be refinanced through Making Home Affordable. That is a bald face lie. Is WF mgmt happy that they have employees lying to their customers? I need help, am current on my mtg, just need a lower rate and no one wants to do the right thing.
In may 15 2009 I stopped making my payment, due to loss of income, Every time I call to inquire aboutthe Home Afford Mod program they tell me different dates on when its starting I just received a preforclosure letter from Wachovia. I am worried... Can anybody tell me if there is still a solution I wasn to keep my home.
Wells Fargo Home Assist is a JOKE! I applied in April and was told it would take 45 days. I have a FHA backed loan and have called every 2-3 weeks for the last almost 6 months and they can never tell me ANYTHING. They just stall me off. I think they are literally stalling me off until I become late with my mortgage and no longer am eligible. It's a racket.
My voice will echo what everyone else on here has posted. The economy has really made it difficult for people to pay their trust deed due to the loss of a job or a reduction of income. In my case my wife lost her job and I had a salary reduction so we cut as down on expenses as much as possible while applying for the modification through WF. I call the customer service line but get the same response, "Nothing new but keep checking". I wish that the Federal Government would have asked for WF to provide proof that they are helping homeowners stay in their home before they loaned money to them but that is just wishful thinking. The most successful way that anyone can get a modification and stay in their home is to hire a lawyer. Sure it will cost you a bit of money but then again you might not be paying your monthly payment anyway so you should have a little saved up. I know that some people would just rather walk away since they owe double what their home is worth so in my own opinion that is sometimes the best solution. So yes WF is just stringing people along to get the most money out of homeowners before they lose their home anyway. They excuse themselves by saying that they are "backlogged" but I didn't hear WF or any other bank say this when people bought homes and closed escrow within 20-45days during the peak of the real estate market. I wish you all luck in whatever solution you are planning to do and just remember to save yourself first before saving your home.
I saw your post. We are in Chapter 13 also and are trying to get a modification under the Making Home Affordable Program. If they tell you they don't (or can't) do a modification if you are in Ch. 13, it is NOT true. Go to the U.S. Treasury website OR Freddie Mac website. U.S. Treasury has the original guidelines from March 4, 2009, but the Freddie Mac website has updated guidelines for its servicers as of mid-July. They both say that people in Ch. 13 are not excluded. You may have already heard something back by now, but just want you to know that I sent my original paperwork in March 31 (which was lost), sent again on May 12. Was able to confirm that it was in the system a week later. But no one looked at it until June 29. Still in review. Finally talked to a supervisor on Friday and was told that we are prequalified and that they are definitely going to work with us--just be patient.
I just called today Wachovia @ 1-888-565-1422 to inquire when the Home Affordable Mod Program is starting. I was told they will be starting on Saturday 08/15/09. So if you are looking forward to this program through Wachovia Mortgage. This phone number might help. They said it is a 30 - 45 Minute interview.
I have been calling every 2 weeks since March, 2009 to apply for loan modifcation. They tell me that their (Wachovia) Obama save a home program will be implemented on the 15th of the month, the 1st of the next month, the 15th of the next month, etc. When should I give up and realize that Wachovia and Wells Fargo will only be happy (and wealthier) when I lose my house!?
I can't believe at this point that I will ever get "the call." I think Wells Fargo has taken over a huge cash cow with Wachoivia's "pick a payment" customers... I'll never allow a solicitating bank mortgage agent talk me into a lower interest rate again... That is, if I still have a house at the end of this nightmare. Good luck everyone...
Wendy, your comment and information has been passed along to our Mortgage Service team. You should be hearing from someone from that group shortly.
Please HELP! I also have been waiting to receive a call from Wachovia for the Making Home Affordable mod program. I have called every month since March and have been told they do not have the information from Wells Fargo yet. Doesn't Wells Fargo own Wachovia now? My loan payment is current and I have never been late, but my payment is now 76% of my salary.
I applied back in May and was told 45 days. I called every week just for a status and was told, we are under review. Last week we were told they now need June and July bank statements.. I was told to include in my fax cover "Please email immediately to Greg Vester of loan services" I have been laid off since April and plowed through our savings. I have a folder ready for Mr. Richard Blumenthal, out state attorney general and Mr. Chris Dodd is getting a copy and I have contacted ABC affiliate WTNH for their segment 8 investigates. I find it mind boggling that all of us are getting misinformation and absolutely no help. I have yet to hear or read of one person getting any kind of help, yet the government provided the banks with the money to help the homeowners? How is this actually possible? Please direct me to someone who can give me a straight answer instead of the runaround? Please?
They are modifying loans of people who are in Chapter 13, but I was told that in order to modify the loan, they would have to take the home out of bankruptcy, wrap the arrears (pre and post-petition) in with the principal and modify the loan. They will tell you this is the BK law, but that is NOT true. The court does not require them to take the home out of BK. That is a Wells Fargo requirement. Also, if they do that, make sure they included ALL arrears. Once it's out of the BK plan, it's out. If there are any pre-petition arrears out there that are not included in the modification, they can still foreclose if you can't pay.
I made my three trial period payments for the HAMP and am now waiting for a final modification. I also just filed for chapter 7 and plan on reaffirming my mortgage. Will WF continue with the HAMP? I don't see why they won't. I tried to wait to file chapter 7 untill the mod was done, but could not. If a Wells Fargo representative reads this, can you please help me just get some answers? Thanks
I have a Wells Fargo Mortgage that has been modified last July 7, i signed the disclosure agreement and have made the first payment last Sept 1. But lo and behold, there was a Notice of Foreclosure Sale posted on my door last Saturday 9/12 (sale date is 10/2/09). Ive called ur Loss Mitigation Dept to have Wells Fargo cancel teh foreclosure sale. First American Loanstar which is Well's Foreclosure Atty told me they haven't received any notice from Wells Fargo. PLEASE HELP, I'M GETTING SO SERIOUSLY STRESSED OUT OVER THIS. Also, until now, my loan still is not updated to "modified" status. What is going on? Am I being duped?
I have been laid off since March. I heard of this plan and contacted Wachovia. They told me that it was not set up yet and they would contact me when it was. I waited for 30 days and contacted them again. It was set up (I did not get a phone call I had to call them. This will be the pattern for the next six mo.) I submitted my application as well as all the docs. they needed. I have called every 2 weeks to check on the status. They told me that it would be a 30-60 day process. After 60 days they told me it would be 90 days. This has been going on for six months and they just keep delaying me. My wife just found a job that pays 1/2 of what mine did and I am about to lose my unemployment. So I called Wachovia to update them because I knew that they were wating for me to lose my unemployment or find a job so I would not qualify. They told me to submit my wife's offer letter and two pay stubs (so they can delay it further). When I submitted my wife's offer letter and called to check that they recieved it, they told me that this would start the process over when they recieve my wife's pay stubs. IT HAS BEEN 6 MONTHS AND I HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER 6 MONTHS.I don't think that I can hold out for 6 months. This might be their plan. What they are doing is shooting themselves in the foot b/c when things turn around and they have treated me in this way and have stolen from the government (my tax dollars) do they think that I will ever do business with them again. If they could not help me fine it's not there problem that I lost my job. As soon as they started taking my tax dollars they have made it there problem. They should not string people along like this. I have never had this type of customer service if you can call it customer service. If anyone has any advice for me let me know. I have always had a great experence with this company for the last 12 years untill this one. I am starting to think that this is coming from Wells Fargo. This is not the same bank that i started doing bussiness with.
We have our mortgage with Wachovia nd now with wells fargo. My wife has been dealing with the mortgage end of Wachovia since June, 09. WE were told it was being processed over and over.
Now they are telling her our application has expired after Wachovia changing the game plan after each call.
I closed out a 401K in 2008 so I could keep current with our mortgage, I didnt want to default.
Now the mortgage is $115,500 and our house is worth around 91,000, the house next door sold for 76,000. I dont know what to do
I see Wells Fargo making money hands over fist on the Cramer show. I don't believe the banks want to help their customers, especially the good customers. The single mom had her mortgage payments cut in half she had missed several payments.
Is there anyone out there that is helping the the regular person
We actually got a loan modification agreement, we signed and had it notarized and UPS shipped it back in July with terms that first payment would be due October 1, 2009. So we didn't make July, August, Sept payment. When we never received a fully executed agreement, we contacted WF on 9/11/09 pm and was told that our loan mod was rejected around 7/30/09 because it wasn't signed by 2 witnesses along with the Notary Public and we had until 9/15/09 to get it corrected. Never received a call or letter notifying us it was a problem. Actually contacted WF in August as was told that everything looked OK that they are swamped we should be getting something from WF soon. We've been on the phone for 2 weeks trying to find out what we can do. Can't get the name of the loan processor or speak with that person. Have been speaking with Loss Mitigation supervisors. So far , no one seems to be able to help us. We've received notification of acceleration letter and we have until 10/6/09 to bring current. Someone came by and left a note on our door URGENT!, Please contact us immediately. Wells Fargo 1-800-206-7984. But that number doesn't work.
It's very frustrating to have signed loan mod agreement but can't get the process finalized.
We're not sure where to go from here. Please help.
I have been calling Wells Fargo since March of 09 when the Making Home Affordable plan came out. I sent in the initial application, and despite calling 10 times to ensure they had all the necessary documents, I was denied because they said they didn't receive my husband's pay stubs. So, I started the process again in June, and I found out last week, despite calling at least 10 times, that I am STILL on denied status, the case was never reopened. Mind you I have faxed in all the forms 3 times at Wells Fargo's request during this period AND they have all my documents scanned in the system. It seems like no one I talk to can fix the problem. I have had 2 managers promise they would call me back and make sure they took care of this and they never did. I am upholding my end of the agreement, but I feel like Wells Fargo is not upholding theirs. They have received billions in bailout dollars on the stipulation they would help people like me and they are letting me fall through the cracks. What do I need to do to get this actually going? I'm working with a HUD counselor, but do I need to involve a lawyer for Wells Fargo to take me seriously?
I guess the only reassuring thing I have gathered from this site is that we are not alone... Not much of confidence builder!
What I have learned: When you call the 800# confirm you have reached loss mitigation. Of all of the call centers we have spoken to, Texas has given the absolute worst customer service. ( We keep calling until we get a different location. If you have reached the 90+ days status, you can request a supervisor when you call... not that they are any more helpful. The website is not accurate. (according to the same customer service representatives who give you different answers everytime you call. This website is still offered as your easiest option by the recording everytime you call in!
If you have gained any information that might be helpful to the rest of us, please share. Stay as positive as you can...it is better for your health. Please come back and let us know if you have reached a successful conclusion as that would offer some encouragement to the rest of us.
Thanks and god bless all of us!
My wife and I have been trying to refinance with Wachovia since 3/08. Finally, last month we were told that every thing looks good for us to ry to do it through the HARP program. We did all the needed paper work, gave all the needed documentation, and then were denied because the loan was an "Undocumented income," loan. That is, Wachovia went by only my wife's income due to me being self-employed for less than a year. We have been loyal customers in that we have great credit, have all our accounts with Wachovia. The problem I have with this is if they are denying the HARP because of undocumented income, then how was it apporved in the ifrst place? Of couse the follow up is they can still do a refinance, but we would have to pay for closing costs and now have PMI on our payments. The whole purpose for the refi is so I can save money and not have to pay PMI.
My wife and I have had it! Wachovia/Wells fargo, have been less than appreciative to loyal customers. We don't know what to do other than looking into other banks to help us with this. Anybody out there have suggestions on what we can do to provide some relief or overturn freddie mac's decision on our loan application?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
I have a freddie mac wells fargo loan and have waited 7 months for the modification they told me I was getting in March. I did everything, hardship letter, monthly expense statement, paystubs, unemployment proof. I also contacted every federal and hud agency in the united states which was useless. The only thing I got out of this so far is a million calls from strangers wanting to help me modify my loan for $3,000, file bankruptcy for me (I have no debt)and list my home for short sale. Make sure you *67 any federal Hopenow, Homeownership Preservation Foundation agencies because they pass on your number to scam artists, vampires, law firms, realtors, etc,. and be sure to use a phone you do not expect to ring night and day.
I am still waiting for a loan modification which they say I am still getting but remember they say 'IT TAKES ABOUT 30 TO 45 DAYS!!!!
i have called every 14 days for 7 months and I am done. My home is worth about the same price as a one bedroom apartment in the ghetto. I am the only person I know that has not had my loan modified so now I used my life savings and am done.
you are right. My story is exactly the same as yours. After 7 months of paying my mortgage by using up all my savings because I was assured I must remain current to get the loan modified.
I did not pay my september mortgage payment. My phone calls every 14 days for 7 months have not resulted in any return calls and I just got my new Wells Fargo mortgage statement, plus a $70 late fee but they have told me three times in two weeks that I still qualify for a modification they just don't know which program. 1 is I have mortgage insurance 2) is my home is worth $150,000 less that I owe which is $210K so the loan-to-value ratio disqualifies me from another, etc.
I will not short sale because I will have to pay taxes on the $150,000 left over after my house is sold for $90,000. They can have it and I will not file BK to keep it.
I will file a lawsuit for discrimination (I am SWF), failure to modify, (supposedly "they" have 180 days by law to modify) whatever.
I don't know what else to do but I keep sending more stuff, updated monthly expenses, payroll deposits, they are really messed up and nobody is watching....
good questions......hmmm signed another hamster in a wheel.
I care. Did you find any regulatory agency to help us??? I have lost my job and drained my savings while waiting for them to do something.
Now all I keep hearing is that we can sue them for failure to help us and modify our loans. Sounds like alot of work and money for the attorneys.
ts
We remain hopeful that we can continue to be strong to make it. I am NOT GIVING UP. WELLS FARGO WILL MODIFY MY LOAN.
I thought I qualified because of the same thing-income 30% of mortgage payment or whatever it was--so I waited for 6 months with all my hardship letter and proof of income/expense docs etc based upon only that.
6 months ago my house was appraised at $25,000 more than what I owe--now in only 7 months my house is worth $110,000 less that what I owe. So now I don't qualify for 3 or 4 loan mods (they only says this stuff in the "Loss Mitigation Dept". But that there are 30 other mod programs I surely must qualify for...............
still waiting and might be moving one day.

I have a FANNIE loan thru Wachovia and am a hardship case but they say I am not "Coded" or "flagged" for HAMP. So how do i start the process and apply for modification if I can't get anyone in loss mitigation to talk to me because I am not coded? By the way, no one can tell me what they are basing this CODE off of. I have an email into customer service. Funny they sure are taking their time answering. However they responded right away to something I asked the other day. I also had to FAX the research department to ask about this code. So where do i get the application???
I see you had an emergency question on the 2nd of October and it's already the 7th of October and you haven't gotten an answer yet?
Sad, really SAD that everyone that's in arrears on their loans have to sit on pins and needles waiting for an answer.
I have been call Wachovia ever week since Feb. Everytime I call I get the run around; it will start in Aug, no it will start next week, no it is starting in Sept, (My fav) it is starting on Tuesday, no I am sorry we had computer issues with the software call back next week. Well I have went through my savings, my 401k and now I don't know what else to do. I have tried to do the right thing, I am current on my mortgage, but my children aren't going to go to college. Please help.
I recently was approved for a trial loan modification program by WF. My loan was bought by Freddie Mac. The first letter I got had a trial payment and I made arrangements on the phone to pay this amount for 3-consecutive months starting in Oct and paying in Nov. and Dec.
I then received some documents from Wells showing a loan modification trial payment $180 less than the one that I had agreed to on the phone. Already the higher payment has been deducted from my checking account (effective Oct 5th) and now the new letter is saying I need to begin paying a lower payment starting Nov 1st. What to do ? I need some help here !!!
Hello,
I have a small investment property (don't own the home I live in). The loan is with Wachovia/Wells Fargo and backed/owned by Fannie Mae. My income has decreased and, due to errors in the calculation of escrow (not an adjustible loan), the payment went from $1180/month to $1434/month. I have reviewed all the requirements for a refi and would qualify but cannot get past the gatekeeper who keeps telling me that my debt-to-income ratio is a problem. Nowhere in the Govt. or Fannie Mae documentation does it say that my debt-to-income ratio needs to be considered in determining if I qualify. Where can I appeal the decision?
I believe that you're on the wrong Blog. This Blog is for home owners that live in their homes and want modificaton and/or the HAMP or HARP program. Your other house with the Wells Fargo mortage isn't lived in by you......
Have you just tried the Loss Mitigation Dept?
If you want the people who run this Blog to answer you, you must leave your name and email address.
I've been trying since April 09 to get a modification with Wells Fargo/America' Serving Co. I submitted paperwork in April for what I was told was the Making Homes Affordable Program called and verified that the info had been received and was told to call back in 30-45 days to check the status of the mod. I called and sent emails throughout the 45 day waiting period with no reponses, after the 45 day wait period I called EVERY day and was told to call back in 7-10 days after almost 60 days of thinking this was being reviewed I'm told by one of the Customer Service Reps that my paperwork was never received, I faxed the paperwork to 2 different fax #'s provided by ASC and called to confirm receipt and verified that info was recieved and in good order. So after 3 months of waiting I'm told to resubmit the paperwork so I called and verified receipt after waiting another 2 months checking status weekly I get a call and letter stating that we re denied because we didn't meet investor guidelines for the workout program, when I told them I was trying to for the Making Homes Affordable Program I was told I had to resubmit paperwork for that program and wait another 30-45 days. That paperwork was submitted Sept 10 it's now Oct 19 and still no update I've been calling at least 3 times per week and was just told recently that my info had not even been assigned to someone to review it and that the person that made the assignments had been out of the office for about 2 weeks and would return on Monday and there was no one else that did the assignments while she was out which is very unbelievable. Such bad experiences in getting this done, but we are NOT giving up.
I have been dealing with Wells Fargo since March, 2009 and no luck. My documents have been send several times to the Loss Mitigation Dept. If you have a name of an executive that I can deal with please send me the name, phone number or whatever info you have.
Very frustrated with the whole process. Thanks
Well here we go again I received a reply from the blog I posted on 10/19 requesting more info so that I can be contacted by a Customer Service Rep. I responded to the email with my info and it didn't surprise me that the email was returned as a MAIL DELIVERY FAILURE with the following message " ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
(reason: 550 5.1.1 ... User unknown" Why does everything have to be so complicated no responses from requests and when I finally get a response and try and provided the info requested and end up with another BAD experience. Can someone please assist with valid info for me to reply to.
Wells Fargo has been stringing me along for many months with this Home Affordable Program. I have resubmitted my application several times and spent well over 100 hours on the phone with them trying to get a straight answer. Nobody there has a clear understanding as to what's going on and it appears that the rules are changed by them constantly. They keep telling me that I am approved and at the last minute they make another excuse to push it back another month or two. I feel that they are either totally incompetent or they are outright liars and criminals. Either way they should not be handling people’s money. I don’t know who is holding them accountable but it looks like they feel that they can get away with just about anything at this point. What happened to the regulators keeping a leash on these intuitions? I have reported them to the Comptroller of the Currency Administrator of National Banks but have a feeling that it will be a while before they even get to my complaint. I feel that a class action lawsuit is the only way to go at this point. If you take the salaries of all of the rude and incompetent people answering the phones (I believe that there are thousands - I personally spoke to almost 40 of them) and wasting everybody’s time, you could pay off many of these mortgages.
Jason Menke,
This blog started in April and now is 6 months old. I have a hard time believing Wells Fargo is serious about the Home Affordable Modification program by the comments I have read here. When will we be able to work with a local Wells Fargo office and speak to a mortgage officer "face to face" about this modification program?? It looks like a lot of frustration could be eliminated by working with your friendly local office. They cannot possibly be as busy and untrained now as they said they were 6 months ago.
HELP !!!
For Wachovia loans:
I have the 'Pick a pay'. They started the HAMP mods. last Mon. The phone # is 1-888-565-1422. M-F 8am-10pm & Sat. 8am-5pm [central time in TX]
I called last Mon. and waited one hour on hold. Ya gotta hang in there.
You will be asked questions about everything, like income, bills, hardship, etc. So, before you call, get all these papers.
Do a income/debt sheet on Works Task Launcher or your equivalent, you don't need to send it but it's easier to have it in front of you.. Be prepared to explain your problems that caused you to be deliquent, if you are. If not, you may not get help right now???
Copy everything so you will have it if ya need it. Keep originals!
Then, in a couple days, you will get a packet, with instructions and questionners. You need to send last two Tax returns, any income docs; pertaining to you, if you have them. Sign and date the IRS Form 4506-T, and hardship letter. Hand write it and sign & date.
I was told to mail mine, cuz they had alot of faxes.
I read that they are trying to do a 48 hr. return, once they get your stuff, but they told me up to 30 days.
So, now I wait.
Hope this helps and just know that I have been working on this since April.
I also read that if you owe less than your house is worth, you will get denied. That's my case. Hope that's not true.
Good luck people and wait some more.
Linda
New progress update:
Maybe things are better for the Wachovia loans, but Wells Fargo is still no better than they were months ago.
After many stressful months of phone calls and going through the application process multiple times, I finally got qualified for the trial phase of the HAMP program. For weeks after returning the final application and after verifying that Wells Fargo had it in their possession, I got calls daily to see if I had sent it in yet. It didn’t matter how many times I confirmed that they had it, they still kept calling (do they have computers or know how to use them?)
Since I have zero trust in this bank by now, I called a few days before the payment was to be automatically withdrawn from my checking account. I was assured that everything was in place and this time the payment would be made, thus officially starting the trial phase of the program. I never expected the problem that occurred.
As a result of them going through the application process multiple times in addition to setting up and then deleting my payment schedule multiple times, there was some confusion as to the exact amount to be paid monthly. It was only a $12 difference, so I told them that I didn’t care which amount they were going to withdraw, I just wanted it set up. I was assured by more than one person that everything was set up properly.
Much to my shock and dismay, they made 2 withdrawals on the same day, one for each of the different amounts. This caused my account to be overdrawn by hundreds of dollars. I called immediately to get them to fix this blatant error and was told that there was nothing that they could do about it. At first they wouldn’t even admit to the error. Eventually after several phone calls they admitted the error but still refused to correct it. They suggested that I just forget about it and maybe it could be credited for the following month’s payment. If I could afford to do that, I would not have needed this program and the headaches associated with 7 months of jumping through their ridiculous hoops.
I had recently mailed several checks that to pay bills, none of which has cleared yet. I told WF that waiting another month to reconcile what was clearly their error was not an option. I am now in jeopardy of having all of my utilities shut off. I was told repeatedly that there was nothing that they could do about it. My account is now frozen with a negative balance. Several calls and more than 24 hours later, I was told that yes, they did make a mistake and yes they would refund the money but it would take 7 – 10 days for this to happen. I spent my birthday at home in tears. I have no money for food, gas, medical care or to pay my utilities. Wells Fargo knows this and does not care. I am very ill (this prolonged illness and related medical expenses is the reason for needing this program). The stress of this situation has had a significant impact on my health but now I can’t even afford the gas to go to the doctor or to pay for my medication.
If you are persistent enough to badger then into letting you into this program, whatever you do, don’t trust them with automatic withdrawals. They will likely wipe out whatever money you have in your checking account and it will take a lot of effort on your part to get it back. If you are a lawyer and are looking for a good case, please contact me. It is definitely lawsuit time.
I am just wondering what kind of spin that you Wells Fargo PR folks can put on this one. Why is it that when the bank makes an error in their favor and even admits to the error that it takes so long to get the money back? In these days of computers shouldn't this just take a minute or two? How can Wells Fargo justify taking days or even weeks to correct their mistake? Why should anyone trust that their money is safe in your bank?
After completing the HAMP trial period and one month extra of payment..booom the merge from Wachovia-Wells happen. Now WF is saying that I need to start from scratch and they are reviewing my case , basic I was told from one rep that the HAMP from Wachovia was useless and I need to start again with WF. I dont have words to explain my frustation. You ask to talk with Supervisor and they told you that you can only talk with Senior Reps. Great Customer Service, ah!!! I will not give up....
Clearly Wells Fargo is doing whatever they can to avoid these mortgage modifications. I'm sure that a lot of you out there are as frustrated as I am with their lack of customer service. The agency to report them to is the “Office of the Comptroller of the Currency”. I filed my report online at
www.helpwithmybank.gov/complaints/your_letter.html
Today I received a letter from Wells Fargo denying most of my complaints and claiming that they remedied the others. All of my complaints were legitimate. Maybe if enough people let this agency know about the underhanded tactics of Wells Fargo Home Mortgage then they would have to do something about it. Wells Fargo can deny all that they want but we have the truth on our side. There is power in numbers and they cannot keep denying that they are not doing their job if enough people let this agency know exactly what is going on.
I did finally get my money back that was erroneously withdrawn from my Wells Fargo checking account. It took almost a week and over a dozen phone calls. If you keep calling eventually you will get someone that knows their job and is actually willing to make an effort to do the right thing. From my personal experience this is about 10% of their staff. The other 90% of them just wasted my time and the money of the banks investors by paying a salary to people that not only don’t get anything accomplished, but make more of a mess for others to clean up. If I were an investor with Wells Fargo I would be very angry about how my money was being blatantly wasted. At this point I have spent several months and nearly 200 hours of my time just getting to the trial period. Anyone who has a full time job or small children would never have this kind of time. It looks like that’s what they are counting on.

We received a "You did it" letter from Freddie Mac/Wells
Fargo indicating that we have started the Home Affordable Trail Period Plan and that payment and packet must be turned by Nov 1. The packet was received Oct 30th and I called Oct 31 to make our payment. I was told by a rep in the Loss Mitigation Dept.at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, that a payment was not needed since money sitting in a suspense account had been used to make the Nov payment. I questioned this person many times to make sure that 1) This information was correct. 2)I would not have to make another payment until Dec 1. On Nov 9th, Wells deducted a payment from our checking account leaving it in the negative with many hundreds of dollars of overdraft fees added. I called immediately and was told that this payment would go towards my Dec payment and that they could not credit my account. I finally insisted on speaking to a manager after talking with 4 different people and over 2 hours of my time. She told me that the she would review my taped conversation of Oct 31 and get back to me. I have not heard from her and we have been 3 days with no money to buy food! I had hoped that the OBama Plan would help us through these layoffs and difficult times but did not know that this bank would not support this plan. I do not know where to go but to the Federal Trade Commission and my state representatives.
I sympathize with your situation as it is very similar to mine. Wells Fargo is making one blunder after another but taking no responsibility whatsoever. It took a lot to get my money back that was taken out erroneously but as far as covering the avalanche of financial problems brought on by Wells Fargo’s errors, all that I can say is good luck. I have spent far too many hours with them playing pass the call. Every time that I call about an issue with my account, I get put on hold for anywhere from a minute to an hour. Someone finally answers and I have to give all of my personal verification information along with my complaint. They then tell me that no – they can’t help me – I need to call so and so. I call the next person and go through the same thing and then get passed along to someone else. This person then passes me to someone else. This keeps going on until I get passed back to the original point of contact and give up in tears and frustration. That’s their game – they hope that you give up and they win.
The only way to combat these vultures is for everyone who has a problem with them to report them to the proper authorities. Wells Fargo can only deny wrongdoing so many times before something is finally done about this.
I have been on the phone with several divisions of Wells Fargo Home Mortgage over the last week. Today alone I have been on the phone for 3 hours.....
No one can locate my Pick a Pay loan (grandfathered in from Wachovia/World Savings)
I am supposed to get a principle reduction of of 35% and also be transitioned over to an Interest Only loan.
This is a nightmare because I am spending precious work hours $$$ on the phone with Wells Fargo to no avail.
I had been in the middle of getting a loan mod with Wachovia in Sepetember when they stopped it and sent me a letter stating that Wells Fargo would be handling Pick a Pay mods from now on.
A week later I was forced to file chapter 7 Bankruptcy.
I stated I am reaffirming the loan and let Wachovia/Wells Fargo proceed with the motion to lift stay.
It was granted and when I called Wachovia's bankruptcy number
800-642-0257 they said to call wells fargo from now on to reaffirm and then continue the modification of my loan.
I had already gone thru a nightmare situation with Wachovia when they assumed my pick a pay mortgage from World Savings.
I am incorrectly listed as a man on the mortgage Note and the title agent signed all documents as a world savings broker.
The actual broker who refi'd my house took advantage of the fact that my grandmother was dying and even sent me a sympathy card that is hand written and states that he would handle all the details of the loan and its terms since I was 'so stressed'
I never noticed this fact that the loan was a pick a pay when my mortgage was refi'd.
Nor did I notice that I was listed as a man and that the title agent signed every one's signatures (even world savings exec)
Since the title agent/broker listed me as a man, I was unable to speak to anyone at Wachovia because they told me they could only speak to a man. After faxing in my license repeatedly for over a year they finally changed it and started negotiating with me about the terms of my mortgage.
All I want to do is take up Wells Fargo on their offer to restructure this pick a pay loan and reduce my principle balance and be placed in the 6 year interest only loan.
Can you please try and find my loan ?
:(
